What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device when you visit a website. They help websites remember your preferences and provide a better user experience. Capsule uses cookies and similar technologies (like localStorage) to provide and improve our service.

Types of Cookies We Use

We categorize our cookies into three types based on their purpose:

  • Essential Cookies: Required for the app to function. Cannot be disabled.
  • Functional Cookies: Remember your preferences and settings.
  • Analytics Cookies: Help us understand how you use the app. Require your consent.

Third-Party Cookies

Some features of Capsule may set cookies from third-party services:

  • Stripe: For payment processing. See Stripe's Cookie Policy
  • Supabase: For authentication. See Supabase's Privacy Policy
  • Sentry: For error tracking and performance monitoring. Session replays are anonymized with all text masked and media blocked. See Sentry's Privacy Policy
  • Cloudflare Turnstile: For bot protection on forms (signup, waitlist). Turnstile verifies that interactions come from real users without traditional CAPTCHAs. It may set cookies to remember verification state. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy
  • OpenAI (Whisper): For premium voice transcription. Audio is processed by OpenAI's Whisper API and not retained after transcription. See OpenAI's Privacy Policy
  • Anthropic (Claude): For AI classification of your captures and natural language queries. Text is processed by Anthropic's Claude API and not used for training. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy
  • Resend: For transactional emails (receipts, trial reminders, payment notifications). Your email address is shared only to deliver messages. See Resend's Privacy Policy
  • Upstash Redis: For distributed rate limiting and circuit breaker state. No personal data is stored in Redis — only anonymous counters and service health state. See Upstash's Privacy Policy

Local Storage and IndexedDB

In addition to cookies, Capsule uses browser storage technologies to provide offline functionality:

  • IndexedDB (capsule-db): Stores your captures locally for offline access. This data never leaves your device unless you choose to sync it.
  • localStorage: Stores preferences, consent choices, and app state.
  • Service Worker Cache: Caches app assets for offline use.

Managing Cookies

You can control cookies through several methods:

  • In-App Settings: Change your analytics consent preference at any time in the Capsule Settings menu.
  • Browser Settings: Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Note that blocking essential cookies may prevent Capsule from working properly.
  • Global Privacy Control (GPC): If your browser sends a GPC signal, we will automatically disable analytics cookies (CCPA compliance).

Do Not Track

Capsule respects the "Do Not Track" (DNT) browser signal. If your browser sends a DNT signal, we will not enable analytics tracking by default. We also honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal as a "Do Not Sell" request under CCPA.

Updates to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date and, if necessary, requesting your consent again.
